Dustmuffin opened in Silver Lake, California in 2011 and have been at our present 3204 W. Sunset Blvd. location since 2015 and have marveled at the growth and changes in our hood. We have watched our block burst into life and are now set in between All Day Baby, a modern take on the American Diner (ask us for menu recommends!) and Dayglow, a REAL COOL purveyor of some of the best coffee roasters from around the world. It’s been a trip and a hustle keeping up with all the changes – so we have been BUSY these past 9 years.
Our original take on the store was a gift shop that mixes the old and the new. We wanted our visitors to be able to discover a new local artist, get some imported French hand crème and find a vintage treasure all in one shopping trip. For inspiration we looked to new world, Cape Cod, and the old world, Provence. The colors, the feelings….
The products and atmosphere are carefully curated by owners Kerry Vitiello and Diana Jacobs. They start their search in Los Angeles and then California but find other wares and articles from France, the United Kingdom and even Morocco, to name a few. Scouring the world for these carefully curated items is why we have built up a great following. We have loyal local customers and folks from as far away as Japan that know they can come to Dustmuffin and find something unique!
Kerry Vitiello is originally from Massachusetts. Kerry has been in Los Angeles for over twenty years where she has worked for numerous galleries, artists (where she met Diana Jacobs!) and curated art for different groups and events. (She’s also done some acting and her share of cocktail waitressing it’s LA!!!!) She loves finding treasures, dogs, wine tasting, traveling, looking at @cheapoldhouses, oh and did we say dogs?
Diana Jacobs has been producing a massive array of artistic works for decades. From small intimate botanical drawings (former botanical illustrator at the Huntington Gardens!) huge mixed media canvases, LARGE SCALE etchings, assemblages (perhaps featuring the contents of an owl pellet and creepy doll parts) and taxidermy (volunteers at the NHM!). Some of her original pieces are available at the shop in person and online. She also is an AMAZING BAKER and CAT LADY.
James Clark, AKA husband of Kerry AKA Mr. Dustmuffin. James helps with the buying and restoring of vintage finds and is AMAZING at helping our clients hunting for the perfect present. He also willingly offers FREE advice on where to eat, drink and visit in Los Angeles. That guy is also an actor that uses his “resting” time to perfect his Dad jokes and records VO in his homemade sound studio in his garage.
Pia Vinson. Pia has been working at Dustmuffin for three years and when not at the shop she’s choreographing or dancing throughout Los Angeles. She has an excellent knowledge of our products and enjoys stop motion, editing and brainstorming our goofy IG puns.
